Baklava (or baklawa) is a sweet and buttery pastry made from layers of delicate fillo dough, filled with chopped nuts and topped with a sweet syrup fragrant with orange blossoms. This mouth-watering pastry was born centuries ago in the Imperial kitchens of Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, and is today a traditional dessert found throughout the Eastern Mediterranean & Central Asia.
The Mediterranean Bakery has sold well-over two and a half million pieces of baklava since we first opened in 1977! We make fresh baklava several times a week in a variety of shapes, richly stuffed with pistachios, walnuts, cashews, almonds, or pecans.
